a couple of weeks ago, i bought civilization iv. after testing it on a couple of computers, i figured out the my game is defective. what's even worse is that i lost my receipt so this means that i can't return it to best buy. is there any way that i can get a replacement for civilization iv without a receipt? any help is greatly appreciated because i've been searching for the receipt for weeks and i want to play this game really badly.

it never had a price tag on it in the first place. besides, it's against best buy's policy to return or exchange a game without a receipt. would it be possible to mail the cds to the publisher and get a replacement?

Another option might be to post why you believe that your copy is defective and maybe someone can help you to overcome that problem, thus not needing an exchange.
Rather than guess that you might have a read / installation problem I think it is best to wait for a response from you.

They can often accomodate an exact like-for-like exchange. You may just need to plead your case to management and request they test the disc and installation on their floor or in their shop.

Alternatively, did you use a credit card to purchase it? If yes, their management can retrieve the sale information from your credit card number.

2K Games warranty is on page 221 of the manual. Their phone number is on page 224. They warrant " ... the original storage medium holding the Software is free from defects ... "

quoted from best buy policy: "your original receipt is required for all returns, exchanges, price matchs and warranty repair services."

unfortuantly, i used cash.

I know Best Buy's policy. I knew it when I made my suggestion. It's still the first thing I would recommend you do if you just bought this a couple of weeks ago. It's still a current sku in that store's inventory.

Second would be write or call the warranty folks while they're still in business.

Good luck.
