I Really Wish Civ 6 Had A Decent Map Editor

After activating world builder, improving my map, and saving it via one of the main mods, I have to say I'm really disappointed. I'm not particularly computer savvy, which makes me wish I could just start a game and seamlessly edit it like in Civ 4. I really like civ 6, but the lack of an intuitive map editor is really a big turn off for me. I hope one is released soon...

Surprised to be the first to reply after all these months.

I've installed R&F only a couple of weeks ago, keeping my promise to myself never to buy a Civ game upon first release. While I thought Civ 6 had "potential" I also thought it was one of the worst, most unplayable games I'd ever bought.

Now, while I think I really like R&F a lot it would be hard for me to overstate my dislike and disdain for the maps. I believe I get one playable map in about 20 rolls. Frequently, no rivers, flat lands offering only 1/1 production, i go for days without seeing a rainforest on a map. There's more emphasis on tundra and desert than on fresh water. There are other map offerings that still offer no improvement, just different maps, TSLs are popular, personally haven't liked the ones I even. I added the Got Lakes? mod which solved the river issue but the maps are pock marked with lakes and feel like playing on a slice of Swiss cheese.

Some players prefer to take whatever they roll. I watched a tutorial at the Deity level in which the player was completely hemmed in. The player then methodically wiped out three neighboring civs in short order. He knew all the bonuses, how to set for maximum bonuses. I will never be such a player, because for one thing, I haven't the time to learn to maximize city placement for wonder effects, or what I need to do to get a boost on most tech tree elements.

So, after getting bored through roll after roll turning up the traditional, really lousy Civ maps, my interest in R&F is fading. I suppose the well beloved In Game Editor (IGE) is gone for good - and it would do so much to spare the futility of re-roll after, re-roll if it were back. .

The IGE for Civ VI is FireTuner, which is part of the Civ VI DevTools. To set-up Fire Tuner's map panel, do the following:
  1. Download and install the tools via Steam under Library -> Tools and searching for Sid Meier's Civilization VI Development Tools.
  2. Start Civ VI and check the "Enable Firetuner" option in the settings/options menu
  3. Exit/Restart Civ VI for the option change to take effect
  4. Run the Dev Tools application, which brings up a menu of which tool you want to run.
  5. Click "Fire Tuner" in the Dev Tools menu
  6. In FireTuner, click File -> Open Panel
  7. Navigate to your Civ VI installation folder (probably just two folders up from the FireTuner folder where the open-panel chooser starts).
  8. Navigate to a subfolder called Debug. Now you should see a bunch of "ltp" files.
  9. Select Map.ltp and click Open.
  10. Now you've got an in-game map editor. Leave FireTuner open while you play Civ VI so that you can do fun things with your maps.

Firetuner is sloppy. What we want is a WORLDBUILDER like in 4. My daughter likes the game, but has a short attention span. I want to create landmasses that are smaller than duel piece by piece and be able to place NATURAL WONDERS and CITY STATES where I please. Firetuner not so great with the start positions and wonders.
