with each other over these crazy "Let's dis each other's country" topics?

Or do you love the thrill of thread WAR?

Some people are getting carried away with thier words, and it is close to getting abusive...

Correct me if I'm wrong BUT this is this what the CF forum is about?

I have made errors in the past and made silly comments, but I realised these hurt CFs feelings.

That's why I'm gonna run this little poll to find out who is wanting rational discussion as opposed to blind rantings.

and that is your democratic right to voice them!

But, I don't love arguments!
I alway try to be rational in my comments...

Everyone has the right to their own opinion, and the right to argue against the opinions of others they consider to be less valid than their own. This neither makes their opinion more valid nor the other person's less valid, but it is their right to do so. If I think that your opinion is wrong, then I will try and pick holes in the arguments upon which you have based your opinion in the hope that you will see things the way I do, but you also have the right to ignore whatever I say and stick to your guns. That's the whole point of debate. Some of the debates on this forum have been fascinating, but I have to say that I agree with the guiding principle behind this thread: there is only so much you can say about national identity before you start to offend others (and in some cases, repeat yourself over several threads).

Every opinion and opiner should be praised or excoriated according to its/his merits. You suggestion above is commonly made by persons who attract little praise, and much critisism. It is the prefered policy of losers.

Duke, you are soooo right! I don't like seeing folks argue the way that I've seen here lately. I'm all about harmony on these boards, so even when I disagree violently (excuse the pun) with someone's opinion, I try to let them know it in a way that says "though I disagree with you, I still have respect for you." Sometimes, I feel that when one is in a discussion that is extremely sensitive or divisive, the best thing that one can do is simply to agree to disagree. I don't mind if others don't share my opinions about a particular issue. It would be an extremely boring world if everyone thought the same.

It disturbs me, though, that some people often resort to insults and flaming to try to get their point across. They don't realize that insulting someone will not make them change their opinion of the issue, or the poster, but that open, honest, and respectful dialogue probably would.

Now, if I've insulted or offended someone, please accept my humble apologies. I don't think that I'm better than anyone, nor do I think that I know it all. There is enough that I don't know about to create an infinity of universes! I'm just the local peacemonger advocating for goodwill and hormony on these boards.
