I have been playing some really fun games lately with a 260x260 map. While playing, watching my gold pile up, an idea for a fun game with a new victory condition popped into my head. So I thought I would share it with you, and if there is enough interest in trying it out, maybe we could have some friendly competition with it.

Playing for gold! Try to reach 1 million gold in as few turns as possible.

(Ideally, if this were a victory condition in the game, I would also suggest that you must control one of each type of resource, and have more gold then all other nations combined.)

The map is 260x260, land mass shaved down so that all terrain can potentially be covered by territory when city cap is reached. Terrain and resources have been tweaked, as have improvements and units. 31 civs. Some locked alliances.

If enough people are interested, I will upload the map.

Here are some of the changes:

General Settings:
- corruption turned off
- minimum research time is 20 turns
- 0 victory conditions
- Russia and China start with 3 settlers
- Rome, US, Germany, India (I think), and England start with 2 settlers
- Player starts with 2 settlers (3 if Russia, have to manually change this)

Units:
- Panzers have no resource requirements, health and defense improved
- all bombardment ranges increased, up to a range of 3 for advanced units
- subs faster
- subs and carriers can carry more units

Improvements
- no production pollution
- more culture from many improvements
- courthouses have tax + culture
- harbor/dock/offshore all give +1/+1/+1 (COASTAL CITIES ARE VITAL)
- Factories no longer replace like kind, but:
- coal factory requires coal in city area
- refinery requires oil
- ironworks (now an improvement) requires iron

Wonders
- nothing except unit producers are rendered obsolete
- colossus and lighthouse also give +1 movement and +1/+1/+1 from water
- some wonders replaced, now have Vatican, Circus Maximus, Priory of Sion, National Mint, East India Company
- 2 new small wonders are The Crusades and The Knights Templar, both producing units

Terrain
- no diseases, no volcanoes
- Tundra gives 3 food when irrigated, 2 shields when mined
- desert gives another food when irrigated (so 3/1 if agricultural)
- mountains give 2 shields, +2 when mined (and allow cities, so putting a city on one yields 2 shields + food)
- jungles give 2 food, marshes give 1/1
- all terrain can be colonized/fully worked

Resources
- what resources appear where has been changed (notably cattle on flood plains)
- gold bonus on most resources improved; oil greatly improved (+ allows for refinery, so oil is very valuable late game).

Locked Alliances
- been tinkering alot with us, going from 4 6-7 member alliances, to 2 3 man alliances + a 2 man one (Rome/Germany/Japan, England/US/France, China/Korea)

If interested in trying a race for gold campaign, please post here (I have been playing on Regent).
