Increasing AI opponents past 22?

Yes. Telling us exactly what it is that you have done ;)
Well, I downloaded your files (from 34CivDll.zip) and replaced the originals. Then I started the game and tried the following combos (avoiding the map scripts you mentioned... I probably only used the one called "continents"):
  • Playing with 34 civilisations and no city-states: Game instantly quit after a couple of turns without telling me anything - it simply disappeared, so I figured it was a memory problem;
  • Playing with 22 civilisations and no city-states: Game instantly quit after a couple of turns without telling me anything - and that's odd, because it managed to do it quite well before I replaced the files;
  • Playing with 10 civilisations and no city-states: Same as above.
I then deinstalled the game and reinstalled it in English (I was running it originally in Japanese), to no avail. I replaced the files once again and never managed to build a single unit, because the game would disappear long before that.

What other info would be useful?

That compiled 34-civ DLL won't work with the latest patch (1.0.3.142) - so I've removed it. And at the moment I don't have the time/interest to recompile and test with the latest version - sorry

hey dude any update on this, I have been out of it for a while but has anyone managed to be able to use more than 22 CIVs on a MAP using a MAPSCRIPT like how it was on CIV IV?

Yes. There is a 34/43/62 majors version of my DLL mod that works with map scripts. It's a little "behind the curve" compared to the standard 22 civ variant (v52 vs v59/60) and has IIRC the sea trade route issue
