Information screen very slow to appear

I have an HP laptop, 4 gigs RAM (Vista 64), Penryn class CPU (P7350 2.0 GHz) and a 512 megs dedicated nVidia 9600M graphics card.

Civ 4 runs great at full details. Animation is smooth, as are videos. BUT... whenever I ask for an information screen (change civics, cash, religions, ...), it takes about 5-6 seconds for the screen to show up.

I've played Civ 4 on a T2400 Toshiba laptop before, with a GMA chip... Not your typical powerhouse... And I never had this kind of problem. And before that, on a P4 with an ATI card.

What can be the problem? I thinking, and I can't figure it out. Obviously, it is doing something, or waiting for something. But what?

Pretty annoying. If anyone has any idea, please share.

Well thanks a LOT for the tip. Actually I did the same thing than what the guy explained he did in the thread you pointed (turning movie quality from high to medium) and the advisor screens are now instantaneous! At last!!!!
