My World Map 256 x 256 is nearly finished.
However before I release it I want to ensure I have considered everything. So, is there anything I should keep in mind before releasing a map of this size? tech rate, unit mobility, resources (how many) etc ?

Your Input is greatly appreciated, and I will be reviewing all before posting it.
Thanks.

My biggest problem with huge worlds is resources. The last time I let the game generate a 160X160 map it had plenty of some luxuries and none or little for others. There were no silks or gems anywhere, and only 3 ivory in one place.

I suppose you have checked the resources?

actually I am saving the resources for last..
I will post a map with no resources enabling the player to decide where, how many etc.. and another one that has them in their historically correct spots...

One thing I am trying to figure out is how many of each?
Should there be same amount of a resource as there are players? or less making some civs with out...

ideas?

I did not completely understand your post...

for example if I had 16 civs playing, should I put 16 luxury, 16 strategic etc ? Or I should split the amount so only 8 of each? That might be hard to do though, in particular with the strategic resources...

I like the maps that the game generates when there are regions of the world heavy in two or three resources and absent of the others. The only problem I have is that the AI Civs don't build harbors until late in the Middle Ages, so trade is impossible unless you are in pangaea with RoPs and use your workers to build roads. The AIs never place a priority on resource trading - you always have to drag them into it.

I meant do NOT as civIII normally does. Try it out, if you play 16 civs on a tiny map, still 12 or more will have iron in their territory. Instead, have the resources bunched together in some places, i.e. lots of iron in some, lots of saltpeter in others... but be carefull to spli these places - no good if one has everything and all others nothing...

It gets very interesting if 1 continent has iron and Rubber, the other Saltpeter and Oil..... ;)
