edit: Ok I fixed the two issues listed below (reset default rules seemed to do it) so play it and tell me what you think!

the link now points to the new version
Hey can anyone help me check out this map I made in the editor? I never made a map before and I'm running into some issues.

1. When it loads, it says the rules are changed but I don't remember changing any rules

2. Sometimes I get a clean crash, not sure why (maybe related to the GOTM17 changes?)

thanks a bunch!

PS Please let me know what you think of the design and everything else. There are 7 civs total including the human. Its a take on the imperialism map, with a "new world" to discover once you are capable. I tried to make each starting location with its own set of challenges.

I can't help you directly with the map at this time, but I want to help you put this mental concept about Gotm17 potentially effecting your other games aside permanently.

When you play a game like Gotm17 it is like playing a CD on your CD player. The fact that you may have played a Santana-Shaman CD will not effect the functions of playing your next Run DMC or Eminem CD if that is what you want to do.

thanks cracker, I just wasn't sure because of the pediaicons.txt. Some of the modding stuff I've been reading has taliked about editing that file. I'm kinda new to the whole modding thing (what can I say I'm a mac user ;) )

thanks again.

But, if you are going to play a standard Civ3 game, then you need to switch pediaicon.txt, right? Or you'd just play it w/ these items showing?

My understanding is that the pediaicons.txt is the only file that needs adjustment depending on which type of Civ game you're playing. This would seem to be true for all Civ players, not just Mac users, because of customized features like, for example, squids.

I changed my pediaicons.txt to pediaicons_original.txt like was stated and inserted the files. I apparently put the squid in the wrong place because it could not find it. So I went to play an original game and all was fine until I went to my advisor screens and within the science screen the pictures within each tech advance did not import. The pictures within the F7 wonder screen did not import. Then about 18 turns later civIII quit, reload temp save, quit. I changed pediaicons.txt back and all was fine.

Not sure if its related, probably is.

n8mac,

You may want to at least look at the text inside your pediaicons.txt file before you speculate about issues that may or may not be related.

Ultimately what we are searching for here is knowledge that will address your concerns as well as any issues and incompatibility bugs that we seem to be uncovering.

When I look through the text labels in the PediaIcons.txt file for the official version of v1.21f on the PC, I find nothing that relates to technology in anyway. Use your text editor to look at your official version and let me know if something is different.

The reason this is important is that you may be covering up or ignoring bug nad function issues that you just have not had the ability to see in the past.

Try to help all of the Civ3 players (MAC and PC) by not using speculation and inuedo as a substitute for the real strengths and inestigative skills that may help you find the real answers to tehse new issues.

n8mac:

Are you saying you tried to play a game other than GOTM-17 when you say you "went to play an original game"? If so, it wasn't going to work until you made the original pediaicons.txt file active again (as you seem to have discovered).

Switching back and forth between the two types of games is as simple as that.
