Loading Problems

I successfully installed and ran civ4 with out any problems. I played a single player game for about 4 hours. The next day i continued by loading the game i previously saved the day before, and everything ran perfect. But Today, I went to load a previously saved game, and the load time drags on for about 5 minutes and the game loads, but then within about 5-10 seconds of finally the game being loaded its "crashes" or the almost like I am hitting alt-tab key and minimizing it to the desktop. My desktop actually is frozen into the same size resolution as the game was, so i have to restart to fix. The menu and everything else works fine. The strange thing I don't understand is the game was working before with no problem what so ever. I have changed the resolution on game, have tried to load different games, even tried starting a new game, i uninstalled the entire game itself and reinstalled, still with no luck, what so ever?

Windows XP Pro
Pentium 4 2.8ghz
512 MB ram
Video Card: All in Wonder 9000 Low Profile (64 mb)

I don't believe its an issue with my set up since the game was working fine at one time. I am lost on this one any help is greatly appreciated

I have a similar problem. I try to load a saved game that I played for a few days and got into the modern era. When the saved game did work it was laggy first starting up but oddly seemed to run better after a turn or so. But the last time I tried to load it, would take 5 or so minutes for that green bar to progress, then the screen would just go black and crash or reboot my computer all by itself. If I start a new game it works fine though, yet my autosaves are all erased from the non working saved game (annoying yet i dunno if that is a bug but should be fixed anyway too) Therse nothing more crappy then working on a game for hours just to have it go corrupted and not work at all. I refuse to play this at all unless some fix comes out (patch ever?), just to only have the same thing happen with my next game. Sid going to sell this to EA so they can fix it? They might suck with 2 dozen $30 expansions for everything they make but atleast they put out games not full of bugs.
and my system is above rec specs (2.0 ghz athlon xp2400, 1528mb ddr ram, 128 ati radeon 9800 win xp with service pack 2)

Wow, finally someone with the same problem as me, well almost. I actually figured out that I was seeing the Auto Save text coming up in the upper left corner the minute that the game loaded. I am thinking this is the problem and I am going to disable auto save in the _CIV4 config file. Hopefully this works...

I was suspiciously suprised when I turned off autosave in the config file and then to notice my saved game actually loaded, BUT (ofcourse theres a big but) after a few turns, it crashed when i clicked end turn, just to crash my computer. I tried to reload the game only to have the same bs problem over again and i checked autosaves are still off. What in the hell is with this?
