I am looking to start a second game here. I am black in the other, so I'll be white here. Anyone is welcome.

How much money do you get for winning a tournament?

I assume you meant Nge7, if not let me know because I may want to play something different.

1. Nc3 e6
2. e4 c5
3. f4 Nc6
4. Nf3 a6
5. g3 Nge7
6. Bg2

The most I've ever won was $1217.50, that's a once in a lifetime sort of thing for someone who's not 2400 or so. It all depends on the size of the tournament. The one I won the big money at was a large tournament with sections under 2200, under 2000, and so on. I tied for 1st in the under 1400 section. Some of the prizes in the large tournaments can go up to $10,000. Check out www.uschess.org/tla/grprix1.html to get an idea about the larger tournaments around the US.

Most of the tournaments I get to play in are local one-day tournaments where the most you are likely to win is about $75 to $100.

:undecide: Oops, sorry about that. That's what I meant, I'll try to be more careful.

1. Nc3 e6
2. e4 c5

5. g3 Nge7
6. Bg2 d5

$1,200!

How many people are usually at the local one-day tournaments?

It depends on where you live, around here, you're lucky to get 20 people. There has been a gradual decline in tournament attendance, probably because of the internet. The same places that used to get 50 people are struggling to get 20. The largest tournaments get about 800-1000 and they can go on for a week. The World Open is 9 rounds, Chicago Open is 7, those are the biggest 2. Chicago is 4 days, World Open I believe has 1 round a day for 5 days, then 2 rounds on each of the last 2. Most of the one-day events are 4 rounds with about an hour per side. The big ones you have 2 hours for the first 40 minutes then 1 hour for the remainder of the game.
