Hello ive been having some trouble with my CIV III lately. Installed it yesterday havent played it in a aobut a year. First off the game wouldnt actually run it kept asking for me to insert the proper cd. I heard this is a common problem so i got the 1.29V patch and got a no cd crack and it seemed to work fine. However ive noticed that i no longer have the ability to stack my units....? the icon isnt there and yeah.... anyone ever heard of this before?

Thanks, Jeff.

Try pressing J or X for moving a stack of units and Ctrl-J or Ctrl-X to move units of the same type in a stack.

What version of CivIII you have? [civ3] [ptw] or [c3c]?

Gold is Civ3 and PTW. Was moving units as a stack introduced it PTW or Conquests? I have complete, so I have no flippin clue.

they do work but they dont allow for stacked untis to attack, so when attacking i have to move the individualy but thanks for the info. FYI everyone, when the game worked properly i could stack the units like i should be able too.

If you have Gold then that Vanilla and PTW. In Vanilla, what you apparantly playing now (patch 1.29f), there were never buttons for stack movements (although <j> does work in 1.29f). I don't know if there are additional buttons in PTW, but you say there were some icons. So, I would guess you are just playing the wrong version, and instead of firing up PTW you are firing up Vanilla.

Welcome to CFC, Jeff850!

Units always attack individually.

sry what i mean is i have to selected each individual one for attack, where as before you could attack in "stack" mode and it would be automatic, hope this clears things up.

so im not following you with the acronyms, the game always worked fine i dont understand why now i need a patch/no cd crack to make it work. I also have no clue why i lost the ability to stack, its weird.

Vanilla refer to the basic version of Civ 3, without any expansion packs. PTW means "Play the World" and is an expansion pack for Civ3. Gold is a Civ 3 release that has both, the basic game plus the PTW expansion pack.
See here, for instance: http://www.civfanatics.com/civ3/#expansions

The patch that you applied, patch 1.29f, is for basic Civ3, and not PTW.

So based on that and the absence of any icons for stack movement I figured that you are playing the wrong version. You are playing Vanilla, and not the PTW expansion.

(<j> is just the keyboard shortcut for stack movement.)

the only reason i update to version 1.29 was because the only no cd crack i found that exactly worked was for that version. THe real question here is why doesnt my legit copy of CIVIII gold not work properly?

OK. I think I misunderstood. I also play Conquests, and have never played PTW or Vanilla, so we may be running into a difference in versions here. Besides, I would select units to attack individually, anyway. It may not be as convenient, but I don't necessarily trust the program to choose the order in which units attack.

Have you made sure that you are playing Play the World? Are the Arabs, Celts, Carthaginians, Spanish, Ottomans, Vikings, Mongols, and Koreans amongst the playable tribes, or not?

Because you patched to 1.29f. I don't have Gold, but I'm pretty sure it came patched out of the box. Also, applying any patches to it breaks it, because then the executable is looking for another version of the disc.

I would backup your save games, uninstall the game, and reinstall it. When you go into regular Civ3, it should say 1.29f on the lower left corner of your screen. 1.27f for PTW.

I don't remember ever having a stack attack function in this game. The game has been out for eight years now, so it might have way back when... But I don't recall it.

Also, we don't support piracy or pirated versions of the game here. Although you may own the game legitimately, using a nocd crack to play the game is considered piracy. As such, we don't support using them. This also includes those that may have a legitimate need for them. We do have a Tech Support forum, if you're having problems with the game running I would post there.
