I'm looking at getting back in to Civ3 SGs. I've had a number of issues to deal with since my last SG, but I'm raring to go again. I want to run this one. My favorite 4 ideas are:

1. Mano-a-mano. Edit the AI to have 30% cost factor but the same start as us humans. Fight to the death.

2. No tech. Well, unless we happen to capture the GL. Small world. Play as Aztecs. (We'd have barracks, temple, archers (blah!), jag warriors (YEAH!), and workers/settlers.) I've won this way on emperor, but my deity attempt floudered.

3. Anti-diplomacy. We may never initiate a diplomatic meeting with anybody and may only accept/decline the offers we are given, as they are given.

4. 5CCC (5 city challenge conquest).

Any takers? Any preferences? I was thinking about trying to start the game this weekend.

Note: This would run on patch 1.21 (or whatever the latest is) of PTW.

One comment on the patch.

Non USA players have been locked out of games because they are still stuck at 1.14. You will be limited in you potential player pool at 1.21.

Note:
This is not a signup, as I just started LK44 and will be at max games for a bit.

To chime in, I'd be interested in options 3 and 4. 30 % cost factor seems a little excessive though. However, as a European I am unable to play v1.21. Consider this a statement of interest should you decide to go to v1.14.

You've done #4 before. It was on Monarch, but that cruised to an easy win in the cavalry era.

#2 would get pretty boring after awhile - not only in that all the turns would be the same but also in building and managing 30 jaguars per musket-defended city.

I fear #1 wouldn't make for that great a game, either. If we start on a different continent than the AI, we'll probably win in the artillery era. If we start on the same landmass, we'll get overwhelmed. (See RBE4 Beyond Deity for nearly-overwhelming force at 50% cost factor, or RBE6 for even-more-nearly-overwhelming even at standard Deity.)

I'd be most interested in #3. Both this and #1 remove the ability of the player to get an economic advantage through brokering, which is a key part of most game plans. I'd also do #4 if you went with that option.

There should be another game or two starting up (see DSG thread for more details) - just wanted to
mention that if this one turns out v1.21 with either no tech (#2) or anti-diplo (#3)
I would probably be interested. I'm assuming #2 would be pangaea, and wonder
if goody huts would be allowed (seems like a yes). #3 may depend on civ for
interest level. I've not done Spain in a SG yet. A severe twist that would fit
nicely with that would be the theme that our 'leader' is a naive tyrant who thinks
he knows best but is incapable of diplomacy or city management. The capital (only)
would be on auto-governor! We play the role of his XO trying to do the real job of
running the country while he botches foreign and city affairs. (I know if every
city had governer it would drive me batty, but one city would serve as an interesting
handicap) Choosing a nation that had a good 'puppet' leader (or spiritual leader) while
someone else actually ran the country would be good for the theme. (rename a civ to Tibet
and choose Dalai Lama, Nebuchadnezzar for Persia, Don Quijote for Spain. Burma's leader
Ne Win was described as "He was the most important and influential figure in Burma
since its independence. "But he was a disaster for his country.")

I'd go for #3, I would also suggest that we could try that one with the additional restriction of no prebuilds - another key part of many game plans.

Arathorn,

I'd go for numbers 3 (Charis' idea sounds interesting from a role-playing perspective...) or 4.
