Ok, just finished my first game. As time wore on I saw that getting any victory besides a timed victory was not going to be possible( had only 40 turns left). I had a nice 100 pt lead on China, and I was eager to see what the end of the game was like(replay, scores, etc), so I kept hitting end turn. My lead over China always stayed around 80-110 pts the entire time and with one turn to go, I was up by 88. However, the last turn saw China notch 89 pts and squeak a 3901-3900 victory over me. What happened? They hadn't racked up that many points in a turn the whole game.

Maybe they rush-built a ton of wonders? Or they put their luxery up to 100% and made every citizen happy?

yeah, that could be it.... I would always micro-micro-micro before the last few turns

^ But doesn't the game keep track of your happiness over time? I don't think a 1-turn happiness festival will change the score that much.

I meant in the old games... I haven't actually won a game of Civ4 yet :D

I think I figured it out. On the last turn the largest(in either pop or area or both) civ must get bonus pts. Serves me right for trying to coast to victory:sad:
