The Gods of Old mod gave me this idea... How about a mod where the AI runs all the civilizations, and you merely control a God/Spirit/Team of such things?
You would be invisible to the AI... It wouldn't directly know you were there... Any reactions to you would be reactions to whatever you do to mess with them.
You could do things like spread your religion (if your diety has one), thus gaining powers/points whatever... You could smite your foes (or followers, if you just enjoy screwing with people) with disasters... Play as the God of the Old Testament and b****-slap Egypt with ten plauges... Play as Zeus and zap enemy military units with your lightning bolts... Or play as the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse at the end of the game and make crap hit the fan across the whole planet...
I'm thinking there'd be many such dieties in one game of this mod, and the poor clueless AI would have no idea why everything is going insane... The dieties would compete to eliminate each other and win... There'd probably be loose alliances... Say, the Greek gods would naturally work together... Until every other faith is eliminated, then they'd turn on each other.
Sound like an interesting idea? Has anyone already done this?
