Modding workers to change the terrain!!

I know that this has been touched upon but... There have been few answers to the basic question. Can workers be modded to alter the terrain?? I went in and modded the game so I have longer to play and explore all the technologies. Also to enjoy all the techs for a while and still have some game time to utilize the techs. But I ran into a big problem. Several of my cities are pretty much maxed out in population and buildings that can be built. Well Global warming starts to settle in and change all the terrain to desert. I want my workers to have the ability to change the terrain back to plains, forests, hills or whatever I want. Can anyone do this or tell me where to start???? Any response would be greatly welcomed. Thanks.

I did exaclty what was posted at the link you supplied. Oh, Thank you very much for that. The workers still wont change desert to anything else. Or I should say I dont know how to get the worker to change the terrain. Is there a hot key or did I miss something. I tried loading up a game I already had going but it crashed to the desktop. So I started a new game and finally got a worker over to a desert tile and The only build options for him are to build a road or a for when I research Mathematics. The usual atuomate worker icons are still there. Can you help me with this please?? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Ok, I went back and double checked all the code (I dont know how to code at all by the way) and I did forget one file. I think I didnt save it. It was the very first entry listed on the link you gave me. Ok, now when I try to load the game it gives me the error:

So, any help would be appreciated. All this so I can save my cities from a gloabal warming death at the very end of the game. Well it would be nice to change the terrain earlier so I can make super cities. Thanks for any reply.

Remove the source line from the file. It shouldn't be there.
 
:goodjob: Ok, I removed the line that you suggested. That fixed the game loading issue. I still have the issue of the game crashing trying to laod a pre-existing game but I am not too worried about that. The game runs fine if I start a new game. I played to the point where I could get a worker over to a desert tile but I still cant do anything with it.
I looked at the other mod and I really dont want any other changes done except the ability to modify the terrain. Oh, maybe also the ability to go onto impassible spaces like mountains and ice. That way I can maximize my land around my cities. Keep the replies coming. I appreciate all who are posting.

ah sorry that line is some left-over when i tried to modify the schema-files; witch diddnt work :D
And i dont know if it is always not possible to load previous saves, but i usually had that problem :(
 
Hey, can you walk me through how to make a worker change the terrain from a desert tile to a "insert terrain here" ? I think I got all the xml file done right just dont know how to implement the changes in the game. Sorry if I sound clueless here. Thanks again.
