Even if not truly a bug it seems hard to consider a "feature".

Monasteries can not be built after scientific method, but without the Organized Relgion Civic one can only build a missionary in cities with a monastery. As such this implies that after discovering Scientific Method the only way to build a missionary is either to already have a preexisting monastery or to switch to Organized Religion.

This smacks of buggish to me ...

Well I guess you could regard it as monasteries and missoneries becoming less important in the modern world unless you have a very religious government, but I agree it's a bit of a dubious feature. This should probably just obsolete the science bonus, but still allow you to construct new monasteries.

you can build missionaries but not monasteries.

But you need monasteries to build the missionaries (unless you're under Organized religion). It's most annoying for later religions. I want to spread the newer religions or ones newly spread to my lands for the free religion bonuses but I can't because I don't have the monasteries.

Couldn't we mod in a "post-scientific-method" monastery? It's sole purpose would be to give culture and produce missionaries?

We could use the same graphic as pre-scientific-method monasteries, the main difference being the lack of a science bonus.

exactly, microbe has it. In the last ages, the scientific method is probably the first responsible for the drop of "faith" of people into religions (though not necessarily in God), since a lot of stuff that was in the holy writings has been proven false.

Given Firaxis' disclaimer about not wanting to "offend" anyone with their take on religion it seems odd that they would have science just about kill late game missionary work.

I guess we know where their stance is on the whole creation vs. evolution thing.

I'm half joking. It seems there should be another way of producing missionaries. However, the idea for me was that a monastary was a place of learning and education, one of the few places during their period of time where education etc. occured. That slowly changed and gave way to more secular universities, academies etc. (Scientific Method if you will) and the monastary exists now only as a hold over relic. I don't here of many monastaries being built these days. It makes sense then when the University becomes more main stream that the monastary would go away.

I like the though of making the monastary lose its 10% science but still be buildable. If that proves to difficult maybe just make Temples or Cathedrals also allow missionary production.

There are a few new ones being built here in Canada . . .

Or maybe add a civic that says that we are a very religious people and want to continue building missionaries...

If you want to build Missionaries after Scientific Method, you must have the Organised Religion Civic, with the penalities that would imply up against AI or MP with Free Religion, etc.

Sounds fair enought to me!

Onedreamer hit the nail on the head saying people may believe in "God" after Scientific Method, but religion would be less relevant as it became obvious it was man-made and fallible!

CIV ON!
