my cd-rom is messed up!

when i put in a cd into the cd-rom, it just doesnt recognize it.
when i try to play a game, it tells me to put the cd in, so i do and it still tells me that it is NOT in

Not that you should get my help....but...
1) How old is the drive? It may require cleaning.
2) Has the computer been moved lately? The cable may have been knocked out.
3) Have you installed any new software or hardware?
4) Do you have an icon in "My Computer"? If not, is your computer reconizing it in the BIOS?
5) What version of windows are you using?
