My first Civ: The Brazilians

I'm building my first Civilization: The Brazilians. I'm posting right now the first arts preview (*.zip file) and other stuffs, I hope you all enjoy them. I'd like receive suggestions (leaders, colors, agressive level...).

Civ Name: The Brazilians.

Title and Leader Name: Companheiro Lula.
Favorite and Shunned Government: Democracy and Feudalism.

Hey, a felow brazilian!

Nice idea this mod. But I think they´ll change your post to other forum, this one is for completed mods.

Anyway, a few questions. Will this be for C3C, PTW or the original? Why did you chosed indusrious? I had a brazilian mod of my own, i changed the iroqouis to Brazil. In the original, they were expansionist and religious. I changed the name of the cities and the leader. Just that. I even left the mounted warior as the UU. But i dont have a brazilian mod fo conquests now.

And, ah, why did you chosed Lula? He is president for only one year so far... The animation is well done, but not very good, it looks like he wants to kiss me...

And about the favorite/shuned govts, I disagree with you. Monarchy is favorite and comunism is shunned.

And Zulu was not really a military leader for the brazilians at his time, you could try to find the names of some generals from the war of Paraguay, or the guy who kiked the Dutch out of the northeast. Juscelino Kubit'chek is definetly out, he had nothing to do with war or military...

In the scientific leaders list I only agree with Santos Dumont. Vital Brasil, Herculano Florence. Sorry for my ignorance, but i dont know who those are...

The city names are great! Did you order them by population? Thats the impresion i get...

And the UU? You forgot about it...

I like your idea. We should definitely have a Brazilian civ in the game.

If you're making this for conquests, then Brazil should be Agricultural/Religious to reflect reality (Brazilian agriculture is huge and extremely important to industry). Also think of the population.

How about including Porto Seguro, the first place Portuguese landed, as a city?

I don't really like Lula as leader, either. What about Dom Pedro I?

I would also go with monarchy instead of Democracy. The government type has to have at least some significant corruption!

I'm glad that you two enjoy my Civ, as I can, I'll upload more progress. Well, those are the awnsers for the above quests:

- This Civ must to be used in C3C version. I can edit it to be used on Civ PTW and Vanilla versions as I finish.
- I chose the bonuses "Religious", because the country owns more Christ people then another else. I chose "Industrious", because the press and the people are always concern with the Brazilian industrial fulfilment, day by day. But the suggestion to change it to "Agricultural" is good, I think the combo "Religious" and "Agricultural" are better then "Religious" and "Industrious". Agribusiness is growing up quickly in the country.
- I didn't chose Dom Pedro I as the Great Leader because he is Portuguese, not Brazilian, in spite of the political independence. If it is okay to chose a foreign man to do the Brazilian leader, we can choose Marques de Pombal, who did a lot of for Brazil in colonial times (1770-1800), influencing the King decisions. Lula is a popular sindical and political leader since the 70' and now conquest the Republic Presidence by the vote, I think he is a good choose. Last year he started a movement between the poor country around the world to conquest more economic power to them, I think Lula is good to represent the Brazilian people in this game.
- I'm glad that you enjoy my animation, I agree with you that it is odd the mouth movement (remember Xuxa kiss, I have to change it )
- I desaggre with you about the government ways, I think Brazil has more influence in the world being a Democracy (like it is today), then being a Monarchy (like it was in the past). I chose feudalism like the worst government way, beause Brazil was some kind of Faudalist country when it was descovered by the Portugueses (the large states, monoculture, poor people working in the crops...), and it government wasn' t one of the best experimented by us.
- Juscelino is not a military leader, he is a Scientific leader, because he built Brasília, my mistake. I think Zulu is a good military leader, not a military leader from the government, but a military leader from his people. The guy who kick the Duths out is a good one too, but I can't remeber his name. If you know (or someone else), please, tell me.
- Vital Brasil descovered the cure of the snake posion and Herculano Florence (Franco- Brazilian guy that lived in Campinas - SP) helps to create the photography, he is one of the creators, but not recognized by Brazil or by the world, unfortunally. Another good one is Padre (Prist) Landal, who helps to develope the radio.
- I put the cities name in order of economical/political/cultural importance, I think it is a good list and represent all the 5.000 cities of the Brazil. The posted list is incomplet, soon I'll post its update.
- I'm developing the Unique Unit, the "Embraer Tucano", that replace "Fighter". It has the same power of the stantard Fighter, but cost 60 shields, instead 80.

Stick with Lula then instead of using a foreigner. Marquis de Pombal is completely portuguese. It's true, you need to use a brazilian as leader.

Also, maybe Padre Anchieta could be used as a scientific leader. I'm not completely sure on this one. He was the jesuit who founded São Paulo. Jesuits had important links with science, discovery and exploration, but I don't know if Anchieta really had anything to do with science. I can try and find out, but maybe you already know?

When I suggested monarchy, I was thinking of the past and the dictatorship and corruption. It isn't good for people of course, but it reflects a part of the history of brazilian governments...

I'm post the first preview (*.jpg file) of the Brazilian Unique Unit, the Embraer Tucano. It replace standard Fighter and cost 60 shields (against 80 of the standard unit).
I agree with Padre Anchieta as a Scientifc Leader, because he found São Paulo, the most important city of the country, I'll add his name to the list.

I still dont like Lula as a leader. And Im not talking about the mod. He has done nothing but to travel around the world, raise taxes and do a lot of useless marketing about "fome zero"... He is a very bad president.

Anyway, political diferences apart...

The favorite/shunned gvmt stuf doesn't make a gvmt better or worst for that civ. It is used by the AI to decide wich gvmt to use. So the civ can behave like it did in history. Like the americans, their fav. is democracy and the shunned is comunism. This way they will never be comunism. The AI prefers to be facist or mornachy instead, in case of war, and democracy, in peace.

If you leave Brazil's fav/shunned as democracy/feudalism, the only thing you get is that Brazil will never be feudal. Everyone choses democracy for peace anyway. We have never been comunist, so, leave the shunned gvmt as Comunism. And for the favorite, monarchy, or even republic.

And how much have Embraer payed you to put their name in the mod? Leave it just as the Tucano!

I change to Republic the favourite government type, it's better then Democracy (in this way people has more power of decision, that does not happen in Brazil).
I don't thing there is any problem use the Embraer name, it's a big enterprise that is growing and helps our country grows too. They don't pay me (but they could ).


Just for kidding, I'm posting a new option of great leader, check the file out! Just kidding, okay?

Isnt Getulio Vargas better as a leader than Lula? I mean, he's recognized as one of the most important presidents in Brazil history IIRC..

What about a bandeirante UU? It could replace the scout. And I think the Brazilians should be expansionist. But I agree with the Religious trait.

I hope you finish this mod before the guys in Civ3Brasil. They are taking too long, and you seen to have all the animations done already. Will you change the civilopedia too?

Thank you very much for suggestions, I'm glad that you all are enjoying my work (Lula, Enéas, Tucano...) and give me suggestions to better them. Here comes the anwsers:
- I put Getúlio like a military leader, not like the great like because he was a bloodly leader, in spite of the good economic and military fulfilm in the years that he was the President or the Dictator. He killed more people then Military Dictatorship, despite being a popular politic. For this reason, I put him just as a currently military leader, he brought wonderful thing to the country, but he brought bad ones too.
- Bandeirantes could be a excellent UU, I thounght this option (but replacing Explorer, not the Scout, because Bandeirantes exist in the same time of the Explorer - Middle Age of Civilization). I thought also a Indian Warrior to replace Warrior, but I'll use this idea in new project that I expect start soon, the civilization Tupi- Guaraní (or another Brazilian Indian tribe). So, I thought also Tucano and Mirage 2000 BR, both war airplane from Embraer: how Civ owns fell unique air units, I chose Tucano as the Brazilian UU.
- Brazilians could be Expansionist (because it is large), Commercial (the 10th biggest PNB of all the world) or Industrious (the PNB deppends significative part from its factories), but I chose a civ Religious and Agricultural. I thing the both bonuses reflects better then another combinations, see our history: the people concern more about the agricultural fulfilment then expand our borders or bring our way of live to antother countries.
- I'm doing alone the arts, I have no help from Civ3Brasil. I know this site, it's cool, I hope they finish theirs arts (UU and Dom Pedro II) to all Brazilians Civ Players have two options to play as the Brazilians (three counting Dr. Enéas )

I'm posting the references done by myself to do the animated leaderhead eras of Lula. If anyone has suggestions, please, post.
This weekend I'll try post more stuffs, like the preview of Embraer Tucano animation, Lula animated leaderhead of different eras and stuffs of my second project: The Tupis, the most important race of the Brazilian native indians. If the Americans have the Iroquois, we have the Tupis

When are they going to finish that one, I have been waiting for quite a while now. Honestly does it take that long to make one civ? All I need is a good leader head and UU and I could whip something up for my own use in a matter of Minuites.

This weekend I'll try post the version 0.5 of The Brazilians, the complete version I'll post as I can. I have insuficient spare time to do the arts, but slowly I finish it.
