Hey ya'll-- I'm pretty new to Civilization, but I'm loving Civ 4.

I've worked myself up to the Prince Difficulty (I'd imagine that's still pretty pathetic, but hard for me!)...and have trouble around the late 20th Century.

I usually expand early, grab a couple of religions and just try to expand peacefully and culturally as much as possible...but I keep losing by Space Race Victory. Is there something I'm missing out on?

Welcome to CivFanatics!

Unfortunately it's hard to give you clear advice, at least without seeing one of your games as to clues as to what's going on. The fact that you're playing into the late game on Prince level indicates that you've probably got most of the basics right.

Three things come to mind;

(1.) "expand peacefully and culturally as much as possible" sounds as though you are more often than not stuck with a mid-sized empire at best whereas expanding 'aggressively' might lead to better results,

(2.) you may not be playing with a victory condition of your own in mind - it's important to have a winning victory target or otherwise you float along just building stuff until it's too late, and

(3.) for whatever reason that you're not attacking, you can still do plenty of damage to slow the AI's space ship building pace by using Spies to pilllage its resources.

As noted above, if you can post a game and explain what you're trying to achieve with it, someone here will probably lend you a hand. :)

Sweet- Thanks Cam. You're right that I really don't have a specific strategy in mind...I'm gonna be playing a game through this weekend-- I'll post it if I lose again :lol:
