Hi
I'm new to Civ 5 - just bought it about 3 weeks ago and am addicted! - spent 24 hours playing it - from the morning after I bought it - right through the night!!! - nutters!!!
Anyway - I started getting a little bored now... and started looking at the Mods.
Firstly I am a fan of Celtic people... and I have downloaded the Celts, but I need DLC 01-04 apparently to get it to work properly?? Any links to these downloads.
Secondly - I have some ideas for for new civilizations:
Zulu - The Zulu people under King Shaka were a fearsome kingdom! They beat the British at Isandluwana - the first ever defeat of the British by a Black African nation! King Shaka was so fearsome that some tribes fled as far as Zambia to get away from him! He initiated many unique military features - such as a short stabbing spear - as apposed to the usual long throwing spear. The Zulus never used bow and arrows, they fought in large bands - they had a special formation of attack translated as "the bulls horns" where they would surround the enemy and drive them towards the main army. The culture was very different to 'normal' civilizations - they did not build cities as such... it would be a challenging civilization to make and consider how it would develop. Cattle were very important to the Zulu, but they knew nothing of horses. They have two types of "witch doctors" - Sangoma for spiritual issues, and Inyanga for medical issues.
Perhaps another 'civilization' could be Swahili - they were used by the Arabs in finding slaves in Africa.
Another thing I was considering is to make a Mod that goes further back in time - a "Prehistoric era" - and some Ice age animals.
Also something I would be keen to help develop is a new game in a similar format where game farming - and game reserves are the objective. In South Africa - many cattle farms have been rehabilitated into 'wild' areas for game farming and private game reserves. This could give several options - game translocation, fence building, fighting poachers, setting fires for management practices, roads, camp sites, tourism, airfields, wildlife rehabilitation, saving endangered species, disease control... Not quite compatible with Civilization as such... but basically a new game using a similar lansdscape format. I think it would be really cool and very educational for people in Africa learning about wildlife management - and for people overseas to try something they wouldn't normally get a chance at!
