I'm Italian, there were some rumors about Italy to be finally included in some CIV installment!!
But still leaks are proving to be true, it seems that we have to wait for the 7th chapter.... with our fingers crossed!
Honestly, I think that (after almost 30 years, 6 installments and I-dont-know-how-many expansions) Italy actually deserves a shot!!!

Just to say some.

Many, including myself, agree with you.

Be careful what you wish for, though, or you may end up with Pizza Shops and Spaghetti Westerns, rather than game mechanics drawn from your rich and interesting history. :)

Bologna being a new city state indicates that Italy will not be a civ in the expansion.

The absence of Italian City-States at Civ6 vanilla launch, might have indicated they were being considered by Firaxis for Civ6. Seems like they decided against them, with their addition of Bologna as City-State.

I actually think this is the other way around. I think adding Bologna this late is like a tip that Italy is coming at a later stage (DLC/3rd expansion). A similar case is probably true for Babylon, Byzantines (Antioch) and Morocco (Fez) as well.

OT: I'm definitely rooting for Italy. I think Cesare Borgia would also be an interesting choice for civ leader. Just no Enrico Backstabber Dandolo this time around.

What about the Maya? :( Palenque is a City-State currently.

I'm betting against DLC or a 3rd expansion after GS, but I would love to be surprised.

Yeah, I forgot that as well. Which gets me thinking: Maybe Firaxis just forgot about those and 3 months into development someone brought it up and were like "oh crap, let's make up for it by adding city-states and pretend we have a plan".

The game is just 2 years old, I doubt it's not going to get something extra after that.

I'm just going off of previous Civ games. Civ4 and 5 only had two expansions.

True, but previous Civ games had even less. Also, Civ IV Colonization and Beyond Earth also happened within the lifetime of Civ IV and Civ V respectively. Maybe Firaxis has learned their lesson and decided to abstain from spin-offs to keep expanding the main game.

I hope you're right about the day of the spinoff being over. The civ model isn't infinitely adaptable and the spinoffs have been mediocre, much worse than the original Colonisation and SMAC. Better to expand the game or make a completely separate game than do another mediocre spinoff.

A real Italian Civ would be great, but I wouldn’t mind Venice coming back either. Although, I’m sure they would be harder to get working in VI.

Well we memed Tamar and Canals in the game. I'm sure there's enough time to meme for more. Italy included. There seemed to be a plan as Genoa was listed as a major Civ in the base game files, but never made it as it had no leader.

Good thing Ed is a Renaissance lover so that probably won't happen.
I can either see an Opera House or a Galleria (Art museum replacement) and a Condotierri as the UU.

No Italian city-states, except for Bologna in GS
Traces of Genoa civ in game files
Rumours of 3rd expansion
Firaxis releasing more modern civs like Brazil, Canada, Australia

I feel we get both 3rd Expansion and Italy!

By the way, Mussolini would make the most amazing leader screen done in Civ 6 style, he would be pompous and fold his hands etc.
(yeah he is not going to be included!)

Mussolini would surely be an extremely peculiar leader, but since he implies a lot of still open and very delicate discussions (expecially in Italy, some people love him, some people hate him), I think he's not going to be ever picked.

The bersaglieri would make the perfect uu for a modern leader such as Victor Emanuel II or just for the civ as a whole thought I'd love to get a renaissance uu.

I am firmly convinced Italy will be a multiple leader civ so we could get more unique improvements and units than usual anyway.

My guess is culture and great people.oriented with a bend toward warfare or money depending on the leader ( say a Sforza vs a Medici for instance)
