New- need guidence

Hello all,

Well as you must have understood from the title I am new to the forums and most of all to the multi part of the game. But after playing civilization II on the net for quite some time (5 years) and playing civ in all its version since it game (including one of course) I feelthat I am expereinced and ready enough to go on to multi (well actually until recently I had a problem with my internet in my computer :s)

I would like to learn of two kind of games Play by e-mail and the multiplayer option in gamespy (am I correct?)

What does play by e-mail mean and how soon does it have to be until we can start?

I am all eager to start a new multi for 8 players, I am good host, gmt -2...

Well I would welcome any explantion of what the play by e-mail meens

Ok, first of all, pbem means that each person gets the game sent to him/her and plays at his own convenience. This is accomplished through the multi-player option. The other system puts you into the internet system set up for the mp's online. Many of these games are set up as turn-based with a timer. When you are finished you have the option of clicking the 'next-turn' box to allow the game to go faster. The only big problem with these games is that your opponents may bug out on you.

For pbem games, it is probably best to join one that is being started first (that way you get you feet wet, so to speak). If you really want to start it on your own, post that you are doing so in this forum (preferably with a distinct name) and give a list of the options being used (e.g. normal map, temperate climate, etc.) Most of us also post the game in the game registry sticky at the top (to let people know that there is a new game being formed).
