New player and Alien Crossfire Question

I just installed Alpha Centauri and fixed it all up so it's running well and all that. I haven't played a game yet.

I also have this Alien Crossfire disk. So my question is...

Should I learn to play the original first or should I install Alien Crossfire and just jump in?

Original SMAC has better balanced factions and gameplay. Just remember to patch it to the latest version (v4.0), ok?

After beating the original, go for the expansion (and get the patch for it too - SMACX v2.0 )

Yeah, that looks like the best way to go. There's plenty to absorb without adding all the expansion stuff too.

To see faction profiles, just start a "quick start" game, and press f1 (datalinks), and click Faction Profiles.

(I say this cause in original SMAC its impossible to see the factions features from the selection screen.)

I recomend exhausting the original before installing SMAC-X.

SMAC-X is not the way to go for epic games. The compuer can not play most of the new factions correctly and they are so easy to beat. That is my opinion (for what little it is worth).
