[G&K] "new to expansion" advisor setting does nothing?

I have played the base game six times so far. I just added Gods & Kings and am a few dozens turns into the game. I set the options for advisors to "new to expansion". I expected this to work how it does in Civ 6: whenever you first encounter something new to the expansion, a dialog pops up and explains it to you. I have yet to see any information whatsoever. I have been getting faith, founding a pantheon, and now founded a religion... absolutely nothing has popped up.

Is this as expected? It seems weird to stumble across all these expansion aspects that are new to me and the game isn't even acknowledging them.

edit: I clicked the "reset advisor messages" button and immediately received prompts regarding faith, religion, etc.
