I heard from the beginning 'T&L would be required' but knowing little about computers, said:
"Oh well my Intel can handle it."
My naievity was obvious then, I was just to complacent to recognize.

Not knowing what 'T&L' even was, I only found out now, my Intel 865 chipset WON'T RUN THE GAME as stated at Intels website. (Doesn't support T&L)

No big deal, I'll save some bucks, and see about getting a videocard. I would REALLY like a fix for us Intel suckers however. :) (I guess Intel sells the majority of computers anyway)

I know nothing about programming etc. so am not gonna rasie any hopes, but it MAY BE POSSIBLE to achieve a workaround for the victims of Intel. Yes, I realize a video card is a necessity anyway, but I really wanna play Civ 4.

I will go back to Civ 3 Conquests for now - I got a good epic game being played at the Deity level, (Im comfortable on Deity) and will move on to the Sid level next. I'll at least survive an Epic game at the 'Sid level' before I even think about gettin' Civ4.

Hope it can work for me someday, I have cancelled my pre-order edition as of now. (CAN)

Hey, I give you credit for checking the spec before trying to play the game, realizing it doesn't work, then coming here to post about how "Firaxis is teh suck" or some garbage like that.

That being said, it's 2005, man! Upgrade your video card!

Yeah it sucks but you still should have kept your preorder edition.... if anything I would have bought it from you or traded for the "retail" plus a bit of cash...

Decent video cards aren't that expensive anyway, do yourself a favor!

Buying a videocard that supports T&L is not very expensive, you could even get a used one on Ebay for almost no money.

OHN

I definatly need a vid card, all Im using is the integrated Intel slug that God gave me.

Now it's obvious why the last thing anyone would care about right now is a Intel issue.

I'm glad though to be happy with Conquests however, because I'm satisfied that with waiting it will be more worth it for my experience. :)

Good-luck to everyone who's playing it as we speak, I feel for the others too.

It was only the regular edition of Civ4 and I have it 'held' until Monday. It was also the first pre-ordered game I (almost) ever got. The Special Edition's were aparantly all spoken for or I would've reserved a copy for you Zukatah. ;)

I've never shopped for a video card so I will try my best, will check e-bay and newegg. etc.

There's some places around here maybe I'll check out too for fun. :)

Ok, thanks - It's not the end of the world I hope, we gotta try and make good things happen. :)

GOOD LUCK WITH CIV 4!!!!!

(P.S. Hoping someone finds a way to enable T&L something-or-other with at least some of the Intel 8xxx models. :goodjob: Laptops included.)

In canada, if youre not looking for the top of the line, you can usually get a good selection of low to mid range cards in your local future shop or best buy. Just a bit faster than online...

...wait, you said newegg. you are obviously american then :)

Nope, Canada - My mistake about that. :) See, I really don't know much about vid cards.

I'll settle for almost anything, so I have no problems with getting an El-cheapo as long as it doesn't combust from over-Civing. :)

Hey man, thanks for being cool about it and not exploding like alot of other people have when they realized their non T&L card wont run the game (since it is a requirement). I dont know whereabouts you live in Canada, but theres a great place I shop at, and I believe you can order online from with great prices! you should check it out, you really can find a card that will run Civ4 very well, for a cheap price! The place is called Logic Computer House, here's the addy: http://www.logiccomputerhouse.com/site/main.php

Edit: Forgot to mention that they have a couple stores, one I Mississauga, the other in Toronto, so if you live close, you can just go to their store (they give you a little discount if you pay in cash).

Thanks, I live In Ottawa, I really appreciate that link thank-you. Got family around the Toronto area so shouldn't be a problem. :)

I wonder how the distribution will work in the U.K? Both Canada and French-Canada um...sort of got stuck in the war on terror with the..... release date and such....

But I know the chairperson of Firaxis and Sid will have issues with Take2 over ALL the known consumer concerns across the globe, as is now being realized by their marketing and PR departments.

Someone messed up real bad. That includes: Production, distribution and the deadline Firaxis was FORCED to meet.

The market also wasn't prepared for Civ 4, after going golden before a pushed-up release date meant the amount of sales (including my pre-order) quickly baffled the ever-consuming, and clean, Canadian factory workers in all of the CD distribution plants.......Nevermind at the border. ;)

I feel for Sid also, hope this won't discourage him from making Civ 5 even more enjoyable and fun......He will have to take matters into his own hands now and become immortalized by us all. :)

Best wishes.

www.ncix.com isn't bad either for ordering online... and you only pay the federal taxes! Otherwise, you can get a good and cheap card if you look at the used market. A quick look at forums.anandtech.com in the For Sale/ For Trade section should really open your eyes on the deals that you can find!

Anyway, happy civing when you get it!
