Does anyone know if its possible to mod in a naming system for units? And if it is possible, will the unit name be unique or once the unit is destroyed can the name be used again?

Ex: The American Civ creates an infantry unit and instead of being named "Infantry" it is named "1st Infantry Division" and then the "2nd Infantry Division." Or a German Civ creates a Panzer and instead of being named "Panzer" its named "1. Panzer-Division."

Could anyone help point me in the right direction? I have tons of unique military unit lists. Mainly from Civil War, WW1, WW2 and from many nations including the British, Americans, Germans, French, Italians, Japanese, etc. I think it would be nice to incorporate them into the game.

Yes. In-game, if you double-click on the yellow unit-name in the bottom left, you can give it a name. It keeps it if you upgrade it, which enables you to easily locate your experienced warriors, &c.

It displays the name as newname (unit), so in my game, where I name all the carriers, it displays: RELIANT (Carrier)

In the Units XML if you look at the bottom where all the great scientists, &c are, it has a list of names to choose from, and I think they go in order so that Einstein isn't born in the 12th century BC. If you look at that at copy that system into another unit's section, you might be able to do things.

There is no way of limiting the names to individual civs, however, so the logical conclusion is only to give this system to unique units.

Try it out, anyway.
