Not alot of Multiplayers out there...

No problem tranquility. I will admit the vast majority of MP games are played in a short period of time 2-3 hours. Most are elimination also either 1-2 cities. This does make most games a battle from early on into the later stages of the game. However, there are epic games starting all the time if that's what you prefer. In epic games war is forbidden until 500ad, of course this can be changed if all agree upon it. Scoring and reports are made at different stages in the game called benchmarks. A formula is used so a person in last at first bench mark can move up and even be the leader at the second benchmark even if he's still behind in points.

Check out the rules section of the ladder main page (on the left border) and there will be a complete breakdown of what I described. The other thing is that ladder members for the most part will be there when the game is going to continue. If not, they will find a comparable substitute of equal (not better) skills to take their place for that session. I think you will find the total MP experience much more enjoyable and you'll make a lot of new friends.

There is always someone there to help you out with just about anything you can think of. My ladder name is the same as it is here. If you do apply for membership contact me and I will forward a line to the admins to speed the process up for you. Your best chance at speedy enrollment would be to contact Canuck Soldier or Sir Party Man.

Good luck and hope to see you around.

PS, I apologized to you for my actions and going off on the tangent that I was taken to. It wasn't fair to you.

If you like more modern based PBEM or head to head, try this scenario:

American Civil War - Conquests

We are just finalizing v4.0 of it. We have had a number of PBEM games going on with good challenge levels. Its a modern setting (well 1861) with a good mix of unit types and strategies. We have not tried it LAN yet.

Its a good balance of historical realism with tough in game challenges. Its a two player scenario.

Good luck with your hunt.

Ahhh, That's really intresting.
I mean I really love multiplayer games in Civilization, my only question is...
WHY DON'T PEOPLE SAVE AND PLAY ANOTHER DAY????
IT'S a perfectly normal and funny thing to do. Strangers can become gaming friends too you know. In fact, they are probably the only gaming friends most people are going to find. Why is it so hard to be friendly on the internet?
Tell me, does anyone ever try to be friendly and nice when they go online. I'd say most does, however somehow they still don't stick to someone they've met on the internet. I don't even know the reason for this.
Can anyone tell me?

WHY DON'T PEOPLE SAVE AND PLAY ANOTHER DAY????

Because of a few reasons...

1) They dont want to lose (ego/pride thing)
2) They have bad computers and can't handle a lot (chieftess)
3) Find another game
4) They didnt like the start/land

If I find a few people that are fun to play with, its possible, I get their AIM or MSN or something and we keep in track. Or we play pbems.

That's great!

I like that there are some players who do save from time to time. It's strange that they aren't more. Besides if you decide to play a conquest game it should be because it's funny, not because you want to win. If you want to win, play the computer. (Ofcourse I always try to win as much as possible, otherwise there's no fun in playing, since then it wouldn't be a competetion.)
What I meant was, don't quit because you're losing, because losing is just part of the fun. I mean have you ever pictured yourself as that desperate king, that even in the end fought until his sword was red.
Who continued to fight even when his city was burning all around him and who's last words were defiance against the conguerers. I mean that's dramatic, that's cool. That's what civilization is all about...

I play many games with friends via Direct IP. I wouldn't waste time playing with strangers who might quit unexpectedly at any time.

You have friends who play Civ3 lucky you :)

In my brief time in the PBEM civfanatics community I have found it very close. Plenty of players have played several games to gether and can be relied upon. It's the new PBEM people you have to watch for quitting but likely you'll see that happen early and you can restart without them. PBEM also caters for us time/money poor 56 k ers.
