Has anyone received this message? I've got a more than adequate rig with a 485W power supply! I've never had a video problem like this before. I was playing CIV IV when my computer crashed and rebooted. This was the message I got on restart.

There is a huge difference between between a $20 485W PSU and a $70 485W PSU. Make sure you don't have some cheep power supply.

Also a $100 500W PSU will be far better then a $50 600W PSU.

Sounds like you have a card that has an auxiliary power connector that is not plugged in.

Hmm, never gotten the popup, but i have had a couple of odd crashes to 256 color 640x480 (or maybe 800x600, really big icons >.<) which force me to restart to fix (can't adjust in display properties). GeForce 5700LE 256m agp with 81.95 official drivers.

Yes syneris, that's exactly what happens. I get a video flicker, a switch to 640x480, and a restart. Then that popup. I should have posted specs with the error, sorry:

AMD Athlon64 3200+
MSI K8N NeoPlatium SLI MOBO
MSI Nvidia 6600GT PCI-E 128MB video card with 81.95 drivers
1GB ultra low latency DDR RAM
120GB SATA HDD
And finally, ANTEC 480W power supply with dedicated power to the video card. This was a $150.00 power supply, and I'm sure the power connector from the card is secured to the power supply. This game was running fine, then crashed, then this error came up.

I got the exact same problem and I got the GF5700 256LE mb agp card too...

Seems to occur after getting into the later years of the game (post 1900's). The game engine seems to struggle with redrawing the map when there's a lot of icons, improvements, etc.

If I reboot and clear the game cache then I can play a while longer before it dies again.

Thats what I bought this game for, to have to learn about game cache's and other technical mumbo-jumbo. Where was quality control when you were writeing this piece of crap software. I have all the required hardware listed for the game, but it doesn't work. I don't know what a game cache is and I get NO ERROR messages, but the game crashes after 30 or so turns at a game, and then that game never initializes corectly again.

I got that once when I updated my video card drivers. I'm using a 6800 Ultra and an Antec Truepower 550 PSU (30 amps on the 12v rail, so no problems there).

I opened up the PC and played with the videocard power connectors a little (maybe there was some gunk there). There has been no recurrance since.

Martin,Thee@faa -- I don't think I've ever seen software cause a power warning like that and it does sound like a card connection or p/s issue. Of course, repeated restarts can strain any p/s so I can see why you are worried and irritated. The game is a ball to play and I regret your sad experience and hope that you can hang in there long enough to let it get fixed.

I can undestand CTD and BSOD, but to get a warning that my video card wasn't getting sufficent power after CIV IV crashed really scared the hell out of me. That seems like a pretty invasive crash, and has me concerned that screen resolution changes caused during the CIV IV crash could have caused real damage to my system. Resolution changes require voltage changes if I'm not mistaken...
