Still in the top 200!!
I used to love this kind of stuff back in the 1980s but I was so young that I never could afford to buy any records. Recently, I've started to get into it again - anyone care to reccommend some bands I may have forgotten about? The ones I can remember (and will be buying CDs of) are -

Run DMC
Public Enemy
NWA
GangStarr
Big Daddy Kane
Eric B & Rakim
Mantronix
Beastie Boys (sort of)
Ice Cube/Ice T
The Real Roxanne
LL Cool J

Any others?

If you don't know any bands or hate this type of music then an amusing way of criticising it would be just as welcome :D

A Tribe Called Quest
Paris(similar to Public Enemy)
Grandmaster Flash
The Furious Five
DJ Kool Herc
Doug E. Fresh
DJ Red Alert
Kurtis Blow
KRS-ONE
Big Daddy Kane
Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg's early stuff qualifies as old skool
Busta Rhymes' early stuff is old skool
De La Soul
Brand Nubian

Those are the ones I can remember at the moment....I probably forgot some important ones.

Also, you should check out Jurassic 5's music. They're like a throwback to the early days of hip hop, and they sound nice and old skool.

Fez Monk beat me to it... Don't forget VANILLA ICE... :) Fab5Freddy?

Why not listen to some music where people play instruments? :)

If not, go with Public Enemy... Or for some good gangsta rap, go with Cypress Hill!

You overlooked MC HAMMER!!! When he took off the "MC" he lost his magic, but he does have some kickin' rhymes (sort of). :)Personally I like "Pray," "Can't Touch This," and "TURTLE Power" (from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie).

The best rap ever is definitely "Rapper's Delight," not the Bloodhound Gang version but the other, more old-school version. It is awesome.

Also check out MC 900 Foot Jesus, the best name in rap. A good song by him is "Adventures in Failure."
