I'm visiting my brother for thanksgiving, and we thought it would be fun to pick up Civ IV and spent the weekend playing each other. Is it possible to play a two person game with only one copy of the game, or do we have to shell out for two copies?

Install the game on 2 computers on a network (same house same router). You'll have to have the game installed on both to get the .dll files loaded into system files.

Have the computer with the disk in make his file with Civ 4 in it (program files/fraxis games) public. (Right click properties of the folder).

Open network places on the other computer and connect to the computer with the Civ 4 disk in it.

Run the Civilization4.exe file on the 2nd computer from the c-drive of the first.

I have no idea if this will work. I only have one computer. But, it has worked for other games of mine back when I used to have 2 computers.

Its easy, and considered that you are allowed to make 3 copies not illegal, unless you charge your bro 5 dollors to play. Install the game on both PCs, start one, wait till its loaded, remove the CD, insert it into the second pc and start the game. Game just needs the CD in the beginning, isnt needed to play the game.

Alright, awesome. I didn't know whether or not it has a cd key and it checks to see if the other game has the same cd key or not...

Civ4 doesnt have a cd key, and that problem of cd checking you could outrun by simple depluging your pc from the net and it cant check the cd keys anymore. As usually it just checks whatever the cd key is legal or not and if it has been already supplied/already online with another ip adress, not whatever your pc friend and you have the same key.
