open ended

im new at this game and am having trouble getting through the modern era b4 the game ends,in 2050.
i know im probably doing things wrong but i was really disapointed when i found out u could'nt have an open game.
is there a mod or scenario that forces u 2 play untill one of the objectives(i.e diplomatic or cultural)is completed and not when time runs out.
i realize its probably just a case of using the editor but i always have difficulty with map editors.
if anyone can help me i would be gratefull.

I think there's a save game editor that allows you to change the year.
