Hello , I bought the game today.
I inserted the dvd, installed the game without difficultys, rebooted my computer and double clicked the desktop icon , I get the loading screen,
Then I get a popup saying "Please insert the correct CD-ROM"
Why on earth would it ask me to do that when I have the DVD-ROM game?
I have installed the patch and it still doesnt work. Im getting really mad at this cause I dont pay 45 dollars for a game that doesnt work. Will someone please help me.

It does the same thing when I instert the dvd and I click "play"

I have exactly the same problem. Many e-mails to tech support followed by usual generalities dealing with software conflicts, but no solution. As best as I can figure it has something to do with copy protection and the fact I have a combination burner/dvd player. Only advice so far as been to deactivate the burner/softwear, what ever that means. I am with you, does anybody know how to deal with this

It'll sound wacky - but its worked for some, comes up every now and then...

Desktop Icon - right click - select Properties - select Compatibility Tab - click Compatibility Mode "Run This Program in compatibility mode for" - click drop down box - select Windows NT - click ok at the bottom.

Double click Civ Icon - pray .....

EDIT: Sorry one other ... try navigating to Civilization4.exe and double click it

Others have posted they ended up with a return disc to seller....

Thanks for the quick response. I tried the NT suggestion and It worked the first time and I was able to play the tutorial. On exiting, my whole system froze and even after rebooting several times, the load screen now freezes This whole thing is frustrating to say the least. As a rabid "Pirates" fan, this game is a real downer--nothing but problems. I guess I can assume the disks must be ok, but I still wonder about the "piracy protection" scheme and my combo drive.
