From what I have been able to gather , an AI can ask you to convert as part of a deal .

Now , this means that you , too , should be able to ask for conversion in return for something else . This means that someone cas ask someone else to convert as part of a peace negotiation ( "Convert to Buddhism or else !" ;) ) .

Now imagine that I make a scenario ( like th Crusades ) where the objective is to either convert or annex the other side ( this is possible due to the new customisability , at lease so I hope ) . Some people may deem this very offensive ( some of the thinner-skinned , PC obsessive people around the world ) . How does Firaxis plan to resolve this ?

Those people don't buy it. Thats all. Those types of people don't play these games anyway.
No? So far every thread on Religion has had a bit of a squabble to some lesser or greater degree...and the game is not even released yet. Civ4 has a potential to bring in a ton of new players - especially since it is now 3D and more appealing to the mainstream...

For example, already there is a thread about the ludicrasy of "Jewish" Cathedrals...someone wanted to debate about Darwinism when I brought it up in as an example about how religions abd the tech tree may work in the game...these are minor things compared to what could be in store after the game is released and thousands more new folks discover these sites and bring their opinions to them.

And remember, what to many may only be 'pc' to some it is an affront to their core beliefs. Be prepared for spirited debate when it comes to Religions and diplomacy in the game...just like reality. (I can picture the reaction now to the first Civ4 thread entitled "<Insert Name of Religion here> Stinks!!") ;)

This is exactly why they decided to not give a specific bonus for any given religion in the game. From what we've seen, religion will grant certain bonus and restrictions, but they'll be generic. So you'll gain a similar bonus from each religion rather than a religion-specific bonus and restriction.

I think people will survive little religion. They could have quareled about traits too, but it wasn't such a big deal. Lets wait and see. Maybe religion will be really cool.

:shakehead *Gets ready for the reilgous hail storm of posting after Civ4 release, off to buy can goods and hire the almighty tank destroying spearmen to defend me.* Run for cover.....

 :p

Everyone should expect some reilgous nut saying how bad this game is because of this, but for most everyone else they shouldnt care, in fact I would expect that the game is going to get far more heat of the slavery then reilgon.

Let's start a "Mock the Religious Nuts who are too self centered" club and use it in the same way as our two "Wrong Forum" persons are doing ;)

Imagine some weird Zombie thumping and saying something like: "It's just a game, relax"

OMG (joke intended) I can't believe someone would put the onus of responsibility on Firaxis to solve the problem.

I know how we can solve it: KILL everyone of different religions so there is only one religion left... if I were Sid, that's how I'd solve it. Now, anyone wanna take sides?

One should be allowed to committe mass genocide based on race or religion, like 'kill all germans, or kill all christians'.

When you can wipe out a civilization by raining hundreds of nuclear weapons upon them, forcing them to be your religion is tame in comparison.

If someone makes an extra-offensive scenario, those who get upset would get upset at the scenario maker, not the game designer.

I don't see that there's an issue.
