I think our constitution needs a preamble. A preamble is liek an intoduction to the constitution and laws of a nation. It is not legally binding, but it sets the tone and the context for the constitution. When interpriting the Constituion, COL and COS, people should be mindful of the preamble, but it is not enforcable.

I have written what I think is a pretty good start (my unbiased opinion of course!). It mentions many of the things that should be important to us, but focuses on the acendancy of Democracy, the ideal on which our whole neterprise is founded. Feel free to pick it to bits or propose a better one or tell me how silly I'm being (though I know you need no encouragement, you know who I'm looking at, yeah YOU!)

We are a democracy. That most favoured of names has been claimed by many, but upheld by few. We must strive to be a society of equals, with justice for all. We are a society where right and freedoms, not the greed of individuals, must prevail. These rights and freedoms can never be cast aside for any goal, however noble. Though we strive to work in mutual respect for common goals, we must accept that our differences may lead us to different conclutions. Thus we must also be a society under the rule of law. From our governing ideals to our rules of conduct, any written law must reflect the values of our society and the will of the people. Our society must be things, equal, just, rightous, compassionate, wise and immortal. However, the foundations we must lay most deeply, the torch we must never let flicker is that we are a democracy and we are free.

Here's the current preamble:
We, the people of Phoenatica, in order to create an atmosphere of friendship and cooperation, establish this Constitution of our beloved country. We uphold the beliefs that each citizen must have a voice in the government and ruling of our country, that government itself is a construct and servant of the people, that rules, regulations, and laws should be established to facilitate the active participation of the people and to make possible the drams and desires of Phoenatics.

Not particularly moving, but I like it.
