Problem With Autosaves

Was playing Civ3 today (1.29f patch installed), and the game crashed. Went to reload the latest autosave, got a 'failed to load' message. Same with all the other autosaves. Turns out all my autosaves were all file size 0. Earlier in this same game the autosaves were definitely working (I had to reload from one yesterday when I crashed), but for some reason at some point they stopped having data saved to them. Anyone have a clue what is going on here?

System specs: Win98, DirectX 8.1, Voodoo 3, SB AudioPCI 64V soundcard, 192 megs ram, 256 meg fixed sized swap file, 1.3 gigs free harddrive space, running Civ3 patched to 1.29f.

I smell a CivIII Bug :crazyeye: :scan: in this report. I have heard about the commpressing feature but this cuts the cake, When the program commpresses, It makes the size smaller but not to the point where there is nothing in it. I may have to check this error Tomorrow, Just incase this is not an epidemic problem ;).

The autosaves aren't compressed, so I don't think that's what's going on here (only user-selected saves are compressed). I started a new game up (I hadn't saved the old one in so long because I was relying on autosave, so I just gave up on it), and I'm around 1400 or so A.D. now and no problems so far. I don't know when the autosaves went bad on the other one, by the time I knew there was a problem all of them were at 0 bytes, but how long that had been going on I have no idea.

It's worth mentioning that Civ3 1.29f is (IMO) impressively stable on my machine, only 2 crashes in about 20 hours of play time. Not bad considering how old my hardware is. Normally I'd suspect the Voodoo3 or the soundcard for any bug (and the 2 crashes I got I believe are from the soundcard), but I can't see where problems with the Voodoo or SB card would result in 0 byte save files. Weird, wild stuff.
