I recently bought an original of Civ Chronicles and installed Civ 2 multiplayer when going to pick music in game it says you need to have the original civ2/civ2 multiplayer cd in the drive and yes the cd is in the drive.

Is this a common issue with Civ Chronicles and if so is there a fix?

Cheers

Civ 2 always assumes your CD drive is D:
So if you've got a partition, several hard drives or card readers, your CD drive is probably F: or further down in the alphabet.
I'm not using the computer where I have Civ 2 installed, but I think there's a key in the registry or a line in the civ.ini file where you can change that letter.

Tried it on a virtualized version of XP which has only 1 hd partition and the cd drive on it is D and still get the same results. I have also checked Civ.ini and that only has two lines one for enabling heralds and one for the Civ Window name.

As in the other thread, there is no music on the UK/Euro version of Civ II.

The community couldn't care less, and calls to their tech support are fruitless.

Tech support passes to to their SUPER FAST URGENT tech line, and then that line sends you an email blaming the devs.

By all means, phone them up and complain. I'd suggest getting some grassroots support from the civ "community" but unfortunately you'll have no luck there.

Recieved an email back from them

Hello,

Unfortunately this functionality is not available in the game and this was a mistake in the documentation. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.

Yeah, that'd be about it.

Guess we all should have bought the import version.

If it's any consolation, your older discs will still work. You could try writing to someone further up the boat, or to the developers, but it'll be just you versus the crowd.

Don't expect anyone to help you :( Sorry mate!

I was thinking the problem could be to do with the filename of the CD, I might get the chronicles disc, rip it to iso, rename it to the civ 2 multiplayer gold filename and then burn it to cd.

As for the older discs nfortunately I lost my older discs Original Civ 2 and Multiplayer gold so had to download a cd image of Multiplayer gold and burn that.

Firaxis should be sending out these cds as they can't/won't fix the original problem, but we both know they won't do that.

Worth a try. As far as I know though the CD is of the type that can be played in any CD player - and it's largely blank barring the folders your PC can see.

Originally a few people thought it was a mixed-media issue (common mistake!) but it appears the CD is actually honest-to-goodness blank.

Still, let us/me know if you have any luck!!
