Hey all, I'm hoping someone here can help me out, because I'm at wits end.

Now, I recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite M60 Laptop, and after installing Civ4 (and vaious other games), I can't get it to launch. The Loading screen comes up and then when it dissapears, i get a message saying that the exe had to be shut down.

It's happened on other games as well, most notably anything from EA and Activision, but then Sid Meier's Pirates runs absolutely great on this system, as does Silent Hunter 3.

So, I did the usual...checked for updates on everything, checked just about everywhere I could think of for some kind of information on this and why it's occuring only on certain programs. If anyone has any ideas, It'd be greatly appreciated!

From the dxdiag

Page File: 308MB used, 2172MB available

Thats a high used figure (308Mb). Was anything else running when you took the dxdiag ? If not, then you have lots of background apps running. You can switch them off using MSConfig, be carefull tho not to switch off essential XP Services.

If not sure how todo this, post again

The other thing to check is if your DVD/CD drive firmware is uptodate, again post if you not sure how to do it

Your drivers are outdated - NVidia released a new set 21 Dec 05. That set in particular implimented support for DirectX 9.0c, so its important you load them

Post again if still issues

There are a lot of background apps running, but I do shut them all down before trying to launch a game. As fr the DVD firmware, this is omething I'm not aware of, so I guess I'll poke around and see what i can come up with, hoever, if it were the DVD firmware, wouldn't that affect all games?

The last one you suggested is the video drivers, and those are the most up to date ones for this grahics driver. It's a Geforce Go 6600...the drivers you suggested don't suport that card....they do work on my Desktops card, a 6600 GT. The driver I have installed right now is from the Toshba website since the nVidia website says they don't host the drivers for this card, very odd I thought.

Dang - missed that - sorry, its getting late ....

You will have issues with that, its not really a card... I would go and get a mid range graphics card, it will not run properly on e Ge Force Go setup,it needs hardware T&L support as minimum spec
