problems with starting civ

I have just installed civ and the installation was fine however when i tried to open it the whole screen went blue and it did not show the videos, however it played the music.
After the videos where over, it showed the starting menu however there where no buttons to press it only showed the background and the Civilzation 4 title.

OMG! This is my EXACT same problem!! Please help us!!! I've looked through tons of posts and I couldn't find anyone with symptoms and/or how to fix it! Finally someone who has the same problem

what patch are you using and where did you get it from?

The patch from this site was FUBAR.

They might of fixed that now however.

I also just bought and installed CIV4 and had the exact same problem. I have also been unable to find a solution, any help would be appreciated.

Are you using patch 1.52? If not try installing that, it might fix it.

My videos are also getting messed up. I get one screen that shows up as a mess of colors, then another is all black. I try to "check for updates" so I can get patch 1.52, but that only severely locks up my computer to the point where I have to unplug it.

Pretty ridiculous stuff.

P.S. I reinstalled and it was no different.

Their servers are getting hammered from all the xmas day new users trying to patch all at once. Try to find the patch at an alternate location.

I've reinstalled 5 times. I know that is way over excesive, but... I had to keep trying I guess. D:
