What do you think of the results of the patch parity vs. editor poll?

Not surprising. However, Nate from MacSoft made a comment today, which is that you'll see the 1.21 editor before 1.29 is even considered. If I were calling the shots, that's what I'd do too, I think.

Here come the editor questions.:crazyeye:

Boy, its never ending for you guys.

;)

Thanks for the quick response, Brad. I'm also anxious for 1.21 - I keep crashing in the beta with that bug I reported - only now it's barbarian warriors that move half a space when attacking and then bye-bye (could it be the dual processors?). I still love the game, although I wonder what your feelings about it are right now. I imagine something like :aargh: or maybe even :vomit:

Just leave it to a new guy to dredge up ancient posts...
Indeed, Sir Oliver, I have an editor question: When the 1.21 editor comes out, what kind of horsepower will it have? Building maps, placing resources and modifying units in the most basic ways I'd imagine, but I see all kinds of goodies from the PC section and I'm wondering if the Mac version might get a little help? Such as:
1) Civ placement.
2) Does custom tile art have the same color table issues as Civ2? (I'm guessing yes)
3) Can we create utterly new units in addition to old ones or do new ones displace present units?
4) Can we mess with the tech tree?
5) If we mess with the tech tree, can we mess with the effects/duration/etc. of wonders?
6) Can we add/modify the resources? Make gold a luxury resource, for instance?
7) Modifying saved games?

Please... tantalize me with details...

b/c as I understand it, the difference between giving us a 1.29 editor and a 1.29 patch is pretty much nil, and we know where things stand (at the moment! I'm hopeful still!) regarding a Mac 1.29 patch.

Of course, I might've totally misinterpreted your puzzled smiley face.

Okay... I did a little research (but only a little):
* When I checked my official instruction manual (don't even remember anymore if it came with it or I bought it after), it didn't even mention an editor.
* Since I don't have the PC version (or associated doodads), I don't know the capacity of *any* of the PC versions (and can only guess what *might* be available based on the Civ2 editor). I imagine I might be able to download the entire PC upgrade and delete everything but the readme...

Anybody have notes from the Long March of Editor Evolution (to at least PC v1.21)?

EJ

EJ,

You could try searching the forums or news items for the Readmes for the last couple of patches.

Basically as memory serves there was always an editor of SOME sort on the PC version, though initially it did little more than allow you to make the geography. Then with Gramphos' Civ Placement Tool and lots of other little tricks people started to get around that, but at some point (this summer? can't remember) "The Editor" was released -- maybe around the time of patch v.1.21? Anyway, then 1.29 had a LOT of changes to the editor in it.

I'm sure I just mangled a lot of that, but I'm tired.

Hello, Brad. I heard JKII has gone golden master.
Congratulations! :D

...Does this mean the editor can get more time?

Yes, I have nothing else to work on but the Civ3 editor, thankfully.
