For all those who loved games like MOO and Alpha Centauri, i think they should have either race creation in civ 4 or much more varied races. The main reason being is it extends replay value of the game enourmously. I remember in Alpha Centauri playing with the environmental greenies was a totally different game than playing wtih the capatilist hungry Morgans or the religeous fanatic Believers.

Something like a Moo2 style point system would be good. Including the use of starting points and things such as those. Say i want to make my civ militaristic and give them better research, but in return i have to have my starting city be in a desert. Or maybe theres an option i can take that gives my civ additional unique units, or starts it off with an extra settler, or extra money, or contact ability with other civs. There could be a host of negatives too. Inefficient farmers, lazy workers, weak soldiers with 1 less hp, etc... you get the idea.

if you can't mod new races download one here

Race creation would be good. I understand the "historical foundation" point of view, but since I think the current CIV attributes are merely randomly attributed, and the civ themselves are subject to much caution (yes, let's go into the "is America a civ" debate one more time :D ), I say let's go and customize. After all, in Civ, YOU Make history, so if you want Iroquois to be top-notch scientists and merchants, why not ?

I think you could add much different races and a race creation aspect without ruining the historical aspect. Sure if you created a race from scratch its not very historical, but if it gives the game tons more replay value and makes it much more fun, then why not?

This is a little [offtopic] but Did anyone ever make a MoO scenerio for [civ3]?

Ahh that was a fun scenerio on Civ2:drool:

It's already in Civ3 and it's very easy to do using the editor. If they put this in the main game it would be nearly of the same complexity. I'd rather not have the main game cluttered with this if the editing tools support it as easily as in Civ3.

It is quite easy to incorporate a "CUSTOM" civ.

But think of the problems: There are always favorite traits, so we would probably end up with Industrious/Agricultural, cool leaderhead, UU with enslavement... basically the Mayans except the leaderhead... :)

This would also mean that we would have to rank traits, calling some stronger, some weaker.

I think the game would lose a lot of feeling this way! Really, consider it. You are no longer Rome, Carthage, or whatever - you are the na4ever's race with no city names, no history in the Pedia and so on.

But why not, let those who want it chose their traits and UU. Amen to that.

If you want, you can do so right now with the editor. I always edited away the pinkish color of some civs that I could not stand hehe...

You already can rename the leader, tribe etc. at the beginning of the game though, so if you want to be the Scythians, pick the mongols, and rename the tribe.

(something I did alot in Civ II)

No one answered my slightly offtopic question:(

Is it out there???
