Quite simply I have added more cooling to my system..Upgraded case fans, added a drive bay fan and added a "cyclone cooler" card to a pci slot..
Game now runs continuously no crashes.
This incidentally is on my wifes 'puter (lower spec than my own  )

She uses a 9600 (vanilla) gfx card..suspecting this was the problem as it now runs cooler.

Who would have suspected a TBS could overheat a video card:eek:
Nice going on you 3d code optimization Firaxis:crazyeye:

Please don't tell me that I have to add more cooling if Civ stops running in the Online menu...

I'm just assuming that it's the code that is causing it to crash, and that you mean a full system reboot instead of a single program rebooting.

I cannot speak for other systems ..just the particular one built for my wife.

BUT...yes if was causing a "hard reset" no matter the mapsize.

I have just tested it and can safely say,at least for that pc, cooling was an issue as my wife has been playing a huge pangea with 18 civs . No crashes, no glitches..in fact no problems.:)

No heat problems during massive FPS carnage at high resolutions, but if I want to be able to play Civ4 at all, I have to use my table fan, blowing cool air directly into the case

At least this problem is easy to diagnose and solve.
