Asst Cook & Bottle Washer
I am trying to reinstall Norton SystemWorks 2003 Professional Edition. Computer is a Gateway 800c Essentials; 60 GB HD; 800 MHz Celeron; 384 MB RAM. I didn't have a problem when I originally installed SystemWorks 2002 on it.
EDIT: Windows XP Pro upgraded from a clean reformat of Windows ME.
A friend originally installed it, and it didn't take fully. The Norton Utilities didn't install the first time; the other things did.
I get an error code - 12 on the NU part of the install. It appears the NU files (around 12+ MB IIRC) were on the computer, but there is no NU on the Start Menu or when accessing through the SystemsWorks icon.
I tried what Symantec recommended to launch the NU Setup.exe from the CD, to no avail; same error code. I haven't tried a third install yet.
I have now hunted down all the folders that I could find for Symantec/Norton and deleted them, after uninstalling and reinstalling NSW a second time. I also think I have disabled all the Startup NSW stuff.
I have also ran the Symclean and ranv that Symantec recommends. I have also ran the Utilities from the CD to get rid of anything Symantec/Norton that it found, and purged the Recycle Bin/Temp Folder.
Before I reinstall again, I wanted to see about checking for registry keys to make sure that they are deleted before I do another reinstall. But I am not sure which ones need purging.
I did a preliminary scan of the registry keys and deleted the obvious Symantec ones, but I don't know where all I need to be deleting.
I have also defragged the computer.
