In the Civ Worlds Wiki it says:
Replacing Wonders

Each time a Wonder is built, another civilization may replace it by building a "better" version. Replacing a Wonder will cost at least one more Great Person than was required to build it originally, up to a maximum of six. Note that a civilization cannot replace their own Wonder with a better version.

However, this does not seem to work properly. I do not know if I am doing something wrong or if this is a bug.
I go to the culture screen (the mask). I select a Wonder that was already built by another Civ (eg. Pyramids) and click on the Great Persons required to build it. A sound is played and a message appears in our Civs chat that I have built the Pyramids for our Civ. However, the Wonder isn't built. It does not show in our Civs Wonder list and we do not get the bonus it should provide but it remains with the Civ that originally had it. The Great Persons aren't removed either, but are "refunded" after the built message appeared.

What am I doing wrong? How can you snag a Wonder from another Civ?

I've played my first 2 open beta games today after 4-5 weeks playing closed beta games and man, CivWorld has become buggy.

You're not doing anything wrong, since the open beta CivWorld has become trash.

Let me give you another example :

Enough science to finish 100% Bronze Working, but nothing happened.

It actually became really buggy the update before OB began - really has nothing to do with the influx of users. Has to do with that awful patch, lol.

At least the closed beta version was playable, what can't be said of the open beta version.

Another example :
When you win a contest as Prince you'll get a promotion and become King.
It worked earlier today in a closed beta game, but it's now broken in the open beta.

Gameplay needs also a whole lot of work. And I didn't see much progression in that direction.
