Is the tech you get from a research agreement random or has anyone noticed a pattern? (funny how this is the one situation where you don't get to pick your "free" tech)

As far as I can tell, its random among the available techs.

Oh, and if you sign multiple deals at once, with some good timing you can sling with this thing.

Do both civilizations get the same benefit at the expiry of the deal !?

Each of them gets a random tech out of those available for research. You won't give tanks to anyone who's not supposed to get them, don't worry.
