I'm playing my first RFC game (actually almost my first BTS game). I started off as India but switched to Rome when I realized I wasn't going to make all 5 religions. I botched the historical--WAY too slow, but things went well after that on Viceroy level. I survived the Barbarians, wiped out Spain and Portugal, and gradually made vassals of Greece, The Dutch, Egypt, Mali and the Inca. I thought I would just coast to a victory on score, or maybe spaceship, although techs are going pretty slow for that.

However, in 1912, the Arabs decided to attack for some reason. Not a big worry, but hard to stage an invasion. I decided that rather than take my troops around the long way, I would land in the Mediterranean, destroy the independently held Jerusalem and then force the Arabs to accept peace.

Unfortunately, the Greeks (who had been a pretty strong vassal and were 2nd or 3rd in techs) suddenly fell apart. Since Turkey and Persia had recently collapsed that meant that everything from the Balkans to the Indus is a giant independent kingdom. Worse, I have a very strong suspicion that if I capture Mecca (which should happen in a turn or two), the Arabs will collapse and join this monster.

Militarily, the Independent state doesn't pose a serious threat, and picking up a couple of the old Greek cities could even be beneficial. The only irritant is all its damn frigates, because I never invested in much sea power. The real problem is that I don't see any way to make peace with the independent state. I don't really want to have to go wandering all over the middle east for twenty turns and I'm frightened of the effect war weariness will have on my stability. I could have a revolution to a more martial regime, but even that sounds like it would threaten my stability (average at the moment) but I'd rather not. If I slow down too much in techs, I'm worried India might be able to launch a spaceship program ahead of me.

So...is there a way to make peace? If I don't, will it affect my war weariness? Advice?

Thanks. I'll pull out of the Middle East as soon as Mecca falls then. I've already taken or destroyed all his cities in Europe, so I should be able to get him of out of my hair.
