I have noticed that conscript units get their arse handed on a plate in combat. However, when attacking with regular units instead, the regulars usually do not lose even a single hitpoint! Does anyone think that conscripts fight worse than regulars?
Attacking unit:4/4, defending unit 5/2

I used to firmly believe that a unit's experience modified combat odds. However, after finding this site (I was a lurker for a long time), I discovered that a unit's experience has no effect on combat odds, only hit points. Now, hit points do affect combat, in such that a unit can suffer more damage at vet or elite and thus remain in combat before being killed or forced to retreat.

I cannot say that I understand the combat system fully, (especially with the fickle nature of the mighty RNG gods), and I have seen some really strange combats while playing CIV 3 that defy my earlier statement.

The problem with conscripts is their hit points. You can have a conscript mech and it can lose to a vet infantry, where the vet mech woudl pretty much never lose. The conscript only has to lose 2 rounds to die, while an elite unit has to lose 5 rounds.

That is a lot more chances for the RNG to be mean.

I have a tough time believing experience only effects hit points. But what's the point of discussing it, it is what it is! I never build regular anything, it just makes to much difference. Upon building Tanks or Modern Armor I always look for the opportunities to elevate them to elite.

Conscripts make even less sense than regular troops
