Road Construction Question

Do you have to connect all your resources to cities with roads? Everything including stuff like farms, etc. Well, I'm asking is what do you NEED to connect with roads?

Special resources like horses, cows, wheat, etc...also, you must build a pasture on them I believe...

Roads can be upgraded to railroads.

Roads are used to connect reources and cities to the trade route - you don't need them to connect farms etc ( unless its a farm to get wheat or rice etc).

Note that rivers act as connections to the trade route as well (as do coasts once you've got sailing).

Roads can upgrade to railroads later on. All that does is increase unit movement; it doesn't give any resource bonus. For that matter, roads themselves give no resources. You just need them to connect things, like your luxuries to your cities and your cities to each other.

What about if you're just mining a small hill or mountain, does that have to be connected by a road?
