Roman Empire in the First Century
Order from Chaos; Years of Trial

PBS, 9pm Central time

120 mins.

Sigourney Weaver narrates this two-part history charting the growth of “the world's first and most enduring superpower.” Part 1's first hour focuses on Augustus, the brilliant ruler who brought “Order from Chaos” following the civil wars of the first century B.C. and ushered in a Pax Romana that would last roughly 200 years. His immediate successors (recalled in Hour 2) weren't nearly as brilliant but they were brutal and, in the case of Caligula, crazy. Also observed: social trends as gleaned in writings of Suetonius, Tacitus, Petronius and Ovid.

Rating: TV-PG

Release Year: 2001

I'll watch it . Gonna have to set the VCR though, since tonight's also the premier of "24."

:hmm: It's coming on soon right? I'll try to catch it.

The show was pretty good. Makes you think that the Romans should be more powerful in CIV. Also makes you think the Romans' leader should be Agustus, not Caesar... Hmmm...

Julius has a documentary on him during the weekend...so hold your breath.

Without Julius, there would have been no Augustus for you to drool about :D
