To make a long story short, a friend of mine called me up this morning with an odd question. She asked if id ever heard of Roman palace guards that would have their testicles removed, forcibly or otherwise, she didnt know. At first i thought she was pullin my leg, but she assured me she wasnt and wanted to know what they were called.
Having never heard of them before (my history strenght is WW1/WW2, not Roman) i thought someone on here might know.

Anyone ever heard of them, or know what they were called? or am i the sucker of a late April Fools Day joke?

i believe they were called eunuchs, & i think tomoyo was trying to point you in the proper forum for the question

I can't tell you I am an 'expert' on Roman history, but I do know it pretty well -- I've published a few articles in it. I don't know of this story/idea at all.

My guess is your freind is mixing it up with the Persian Eunuchs. For the Persians, this practice was much more common.
