Download Rpg Maker 2000 and the RM2K Run Time Package
Install the RTP first.
Then go and make RPGs
Its simple fun, and if your having any trouble there's lots of tutorials on the web. I'm currently working on an Rpg, not very far yet though.
the 2003 Version uses the same engineand just has a couple of new things. but the over complicated it and its NOT good.
And I dont know about XP, so you can try it.

The XP download doesn't work, so I'm trying the 2000 download.

I started work on an rpg last year with the 2000 version. Spent hours on it as I deleted all the default weapons and stuff and worked on my own. Only managed to get about 5-10 minutes of gameplay done though.

If anyone wants to take a look at what I did get done, I've put it up here. This includes every single file needed, and it takes it up to about 20mb.

Once I get around to it though, I plan on making and releasing games using Game Maker. I'll probably convert the rpg I started over to this too. (Eventually. )

From what I remember reading last year, I'm not sure if this program is legal or not. It's simply a translated version of a program that hasn't been released outside of japan from what I remember, and this puts it in the same class as anime fansubs. I've also read that this translation was illegal, so who knows?

And this site could give you guys some help. I found it pretty helpful. Lots of tutorials, finished games, resources etc on it.
